Phoebe Jones

Phoebe Jones, co-coordinator of the Global Women's Strike in the US and coordinator of the Crossroads Women’s Center in Philadelphia, has been involved in efforts to get unwaged work recognized, valued and compensated since she joined the Wages for Housework Campaign as a college student in the 1970s. She has been part of numerous delegations to Capitol Hill starting in the 1980s against the dismantling of welfare to the present day advocating for a permanent fully refundable child tax credit and for an Earned Income Tax Credit that recognizes the work of caregiving. She was involved in winning the 1995 UN resolution to measure and value unwaged work in the home, on the land and in the community and include that value in economic statistics. She is co-editor of The Milk of Human Kindness published in 2002 about the economic value of breastfeeding. She was co-producer of the video, DHS Give Us Back Our Children, challenging unjust child removals by the child welfare/family policing system. She’s a mother, grandmother and fitness and sports enthusiast. She has a PhD in physical education.
