Hafeeza Anchrum

Hafeeza Anchrum is a registered nurse and Postdoctoral Fellow in the Penn Program on Race, Science and Society. Her research centers on the history of Black women’s health work and activism, with a particular focus on Black American nurses. Anchrum’s interest in the caregiving economy—specifically in improving the wages, recognition and treatment of caregivers—stems from three key influences: her scholarly work on the caregiver labor of mostly working-poor Black women, her professional experience as a registered nurse, and her personal role as a former unpaid family caregiver. She is currently developing a book manuscript on the contributions of Philadelphia’s professional Black nursing class to the medical civil rights movement. Anchrum earned a PhD in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Nursing from New York University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida State University.
