Jazmen Powell

Jazmen entered the CPS Foster Care system at the age 10. She aged out of CPS with a baby in her belly who was removed and adopted as an infant. On her 18th birthday, she had a final meal with her Foster Family and they dropped her off at a bus stop to part ways. Young, homeless, and with no help, she was pressured into signing over her parental rights. As a result of her rights being terminated, her subsequent children were automatically targeted for removal even though she was advancing in life. Jazmen won the appeal of the Termination of Parental Rights (TPR) for her fourth child and was reunified with her second. She never graduated high school, but since she was dropped off at the bus stop in February 2005, she obtained her High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) and is currently in her fifth semester working for a degree in Human Services. Jaz is a very generous, volunteering rides, clothing, and food as she drives by women in need. Her plan is to be an unpaid Street Social Worker and she is the Welfare Warriors Legislative Chair.
