Margaret Prescod
Margaret Prescod is a co-founder of Black Women for Wages for Housework, coordinator of Women of Color/Global Women’s Strike, and joint coordinator of GWS/US. She is on the board of the National Welfare Rights Union, on the Steering Committee of the Automatic Benefit for Children (ABC) Coalition, and the 2024 recipient of the Ann Snitow Prize. Margaret founded the Black Coalition Fighting Back Serial Murders that for decades fought against the devaluation of the scores of Black women serial murder victims and for justice. She also coordinates Reclaiming Our Sisters Everywhere South LA (ROSESLA). Margaret led successful grassroots delegations that won UN decisions to measure and value unwaged work in the home, on the land, and in the community, now included in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Black Women: Bringing It All Back Home (Falling Wall Press, 1980) and wrote the introduction to Selma James’ book
Our Time is Now
(PM Press, 2021). Margaret amplifies critical social justice issues as the host and producer of
Sojourner Truth, a nationally syndicated drive-time public affairs show on Pacifica Radio. She is dedicated to bridging divides between communities and movements, beginning with the needs of those with the least.
